Cold room and Quiet hum

They did the trick. At least for last night. Sort of. I still woke up 2-3 times but went right back to sleep. No 3 hour stretch of tossing and trying to lay still.

It was a muggy night so I left the AC on all night. I sleep SOOO much better in a cold room. I grew up in a house with no heat upstairs so I've always preferred it a bit cooler in my room and lots of covers. Plus the "white" noise of the AC may have helped. I may get a clock with the white noise built in. Seems worth a try and if it keeps me mostly off meds that would be even better. I'm still seeing the Dr in a few weeks but will continue to try to find other remedies for my sleeplessness.

My very good friend Edge suffered a heart attack last weekend. It makes me tear up to write those words. He is with Maddy and will be for awhile so he is in his happy place and for that (and her) I'm grateful. Kinda funny because last weekend when Sam and I were in Bar Harbor I couldn't help but notice so many winding crooked trails and thought of Edge many times. It may be a coincidence but I think it is that "blogger connection" that caused me to think of him and dedicate a post to him when he was in his hour of need. Stop on over at his blog and give him lots of loving.

The long hard winter

When I was little and even after I was grown I always likes to read the Little House books. In the winter I would find myself reading the Long Hard Winter. Boy they had it rough. Twisting hay for heat and grinding wheat for one loaf of daily bread to be shared amongst 5 people. 7 months of blizzards with barely a half day day between storms to prepare for the next. At one point their house was completely buried in snow. It was those few days that they actually had it easier because they were warmer.

We certainly have it easier than them but it has been a long winter and we ARE buried. This pic of the window was right before Sam and my ex got on the roof to shovel it off.

This pic is midway through the shoveling. Sam is standing on the snow bank. As you can see that snowbank is now at the height of the top of the window. No ladder needed to get on the roof but that was official a few days ago.

The blue sky is deceiving. It was actually about 18degrees out. That window to the far right is my bedroom window. We are in a gray out. The bedroom isn't really dark but it isn't light either and it has that eery quietness that comes with a snowstorm. It would be peaceful if it weren't so eery.

It has warmed up to 38 degrees and it is raining. The roof is shoveled and I'm hoping that the rest of the ice will melt off. We need a decent melt off. We are out of space for snow. The driveway is full. The roof will have to be shoveled up. It is kinda exciting that we are having such a snowy winter. We have several small fir trees out back that have always managed to keep their heads above the snow. Not this year. They are completely buried.

I'll be monitoring the snowpack from the inside for awhile. I'm anxious to see how long it takes the snow to melt below the bedroom window. Until then I don't have to worry about any peeping toms.

Oh and I seem to have come down with another nasty cold.

Catching up with a cold

What is faster, Hot or Cold???

Cold....because you can catch a cold.

You guessed it, I have a cold. Been fighting the sniffles and sneezing and coughing and sore throat. Had the all-over body aches and am basically just exhausted. I had a very peaceful restful weekend so it's not like I have been over doing it.

I have been feeling pretty lousy since Sunday morning and I thought I had turned a corner last night but it seems I have only started down a different ave in this cold. I have been to the bathroom 2 times already this morning and it seems there is no end in sight (if you know what I mean).

DayQu!l is NOT a miracle cure. Matter of fact I am hardly seeing a difference at all. Truthfully I think a "cup of tea and long nap" remedy is about the only thing that will make me feel better.

I'm working. And I have to keep on working. Deadlines are looming. If I make it until Friday afternoon it'll be a miracle. Break is just about over and I need another cup of tea and a short jaunt to the ladies room.

Happy Tuesday!!

I've fallen and I can't get up

I've been sick for 3 days now. A nasty summer cold/allergies I guess. Ever since I had pneumonia a couple of years ago I get really nervous any time I get sick in the summer. I'm getting better. Kinda. I seemed to have plateaued. I'm not getting worse but not really a whole lot better either.

During my time in between naps I fell into the dark recesses of the past. Yup...I have been trolling in the personals. It's amazing the number of people who are still there. I haven't been in the personals in about a year. These people are as pathetic as I am. I've ventured into the land of MySpa.ce too. I kinda like MyS.pace though because that's where the kids are so I can check up on them and see who they are chatting with. They have a heck of alot more friends than I do. I don't know how they keep up with so many.

I got a message from a guy in the Mys.pace account. He liked my pic and wanted to know if he could add me? I have my profile private (at least I think it is private) so I have to add you as a friend in order for you to view my profile. You can see some basic info and a pic but that is it. I checked out his profile and he seemed decent. So I added him and we struck up a conversation. From the moment I saw his pic I thought he seemed familiar. After a few min I finally just asked him if we had met before? No, he didn't think so. Hmmmmm....I was feeling pretty sure we had. I couldn't say for sure but he was very familiar. I checked his profile again and saw that he lived near a town of the person who I thought he was. We chatted some more, just small talk. I asked him if he ever lived in BP? He said no but he has been there a few times.

He said "You really think we have met before don't you?"

"Yes I do." Maybe I'm losing my mind and I have met alot of people through the personals and never gotten past one date with any of them so maybe I am losing my mind. (Can I begin and end a sentence with the same words?) And truthfully it was more his way and than his face that had me thinking I knew him. He types like a 12yo. Broken sentences, wrong tenses and spelling, lots of acronyms alot of use of the emoticons. I knew I knew this person.

Finally he said "Have you ever met anyone at TC?"

I said "Yes, once"

"When?"

"About 2 years ago, maybe three years now"

"What did you have there?"

"Coffee and we split a chocolate eclair"

"with who?"

"a handsome stranger, truthfully I don't remember his name"

He puts up a smiley face and says "maybe that WAS us"

"hmmmmm....maybe"

"so, do you still drink coffee?"

"everyday"

"Still eat eclairs?"

"not so much anymore"

"maybe you'd like to join me for a coffee again sometime?

"maybe"

We made more small talk. I had to laugh that he had no clue who I was. I asked him if he really remembered or was he just making it up as we went along. He said he didn't remember me in the beginning but after I kept saying that I thought we knew each other it came back to him. He asked why we never had another date. Heck if I know. I remember liking him enough at the time to have been willing to go on a second date but he never pursued it. And I don't pursue, I'm old fashioned that way.
He asked for my number, I said let's talk some more on the puter and see where it goes. He said again that he would like to take me out sometime. I said ok. And that's where it ended. It was 11pm. I was tired and he had to get up early for work.

This whole personals thing is entertaining if it's nothing else.
